CBI Arrests 2 ED Officers on Charges of Taking Bribe

The Anti-Corruption Wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested two Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on charges of taking bribe.

Deputy director RK Singh and assistant director Bhuvnesh Kumar of ED’s Ahmedabad zonal office were held while allegedly accepting Rs.5 lakhs from a trader. The duo allegedly demanded Rs75 lakh and then brought the amount down to Rs.5 lakhs, said people with direct knowledge of the matter.

A case was registered by the agency on June 26 on a complaint of HM Industrial Pvt Ltd Director Paresh H Patel. According to the FIR, on June 18, Patel and his son visited the ED office in Ahmedabad on the instruction of deputy director Singh. “The complainant has alleged that he and his son were beaten up badly and abused by PK Singh and were also threatened with attachment of their properties,” it alleged.

Singh, in the presence of Kumar, then demanded Rs.75 lakhs to settle the case and stop beating up them, according to the FIR. “The complainant was asked to talk about the bribe amount in code talk about the bribe amount in code language, one kilo for one lakhs rupees,” it said.

The assistant director called up the complainant on WhatsApp and discussed about sending the amount through a courier firm to Delhi, it said.S-ET
