Diwali Gift: Cabinet Okays 3% DA Hike

The Union cabinet on Thursday gave nod to an increase dearness allowance (DA) of central government employees and dearness relief of pensioners by 3%, taking it to 31% to compensate for the price rise.

It will be effective July 1, said minister of information and broadcasting, Anurag Thakur in post cabinet briefing.

In a statement, the government noted that it would benefit 47.14 lakh central government employee and 68.62 lakh pensioners. “The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both DA and dearness relief would be Rs. 9,488.7 crores per annum,” the statement noted, adding that the increase was in accordance with the accepted formula based on recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission.

In July, the government had increased the DA for central government employees and dearness relief for pensioners from 17% to 28%.


The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan including an institutional framework for rolling out, implementation, monitoring and support mechanism for providing multi-modal connectivity.

“Implementation framework includes empowered group of secretaries (EGOS), network planning group (NPG) and technical support unit (TSU) with required technical competencies,” the government said in a statement.

The government statement noted that this will give a momentum for the rolling out of PM GatiShakti which will result in a holistic and integrated planning framework for infrastructure development in the country.

“With this approval, PM GatiShakti shall being in various stakeholders together and help integrate different modes of transportation,” the statement said.

CCEA has also approved for motion, composition and terms of reference for Network Planning Group (NPG) consisting of heads of Network Planning wing of respective infrastructure ministries and it will assist the EGOS.

EGOS will be headed by cabinet secretary and will consist of secretaries of 18 ministries as members and head of logistics division as member convener.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13, GatiShakti National Master Plan is intended to break departmental silos and bring in more holistic and integrated planning and execution of projects with a view to address the issues of multi-modal connectivity and last-mile connectivity, the statement noted.
