Festive Spirit: E-way Bills Set to Surpass Sept Levels

E-way bills in October are likely to surpass the September level, indicating firming of economic recovery with the onset of festive season, said experts. With a daily average of more than 2.17 million, the trend indicates that the month’s total e-way bills may cross 67 million, as they did in September, but festive orders are likely to push up demand and thus lead to a higher number.

“We expect daily average generation of the GST e-way bills in October 2021 to surpass the peaks seen in February-March 2021, boosted by healthy demand during the festive season,” Aditi Nayar, chief economist at ratings agency ICRA.

As per data available till October 17, nearly 37 million e-way bills were generated this month, with a daily average of 2.17 million. While daily average for September was higher at 2.26 million, the total number of bills generated stood at 67.9 million.

“The trend should continue in H2 of October and November. Opening up of services sector such as restaurants, cinema halls and offices is also contributing towards increased movement of products,” said Pratik Jain, partner at Price Waterhouse & Co, LLP.
