Four arrested for GST evasion of Rs 335 crore in Agra

Agra, Aug 20 (PTI) The Central GST on Thursday arrested four persons for evading tax of Rs 33.5 crore by forming fake firms and issuing fake invoices. This case is being described as the biggest tax evasion till date.

According to a release issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax and Central Excise, Agra, the arrested accused are Rishabh Mittal, Varun Gupta, Vikas Agarwal and Sunil Kumar Rathore.

According to the release, the departmental inquiry revealed that the four accused had formed around 100 firms under different names and addresses during the last three years. Fake invoices worth about 184.56 crore were issued between these firms. In this way he allegedly caused a loss of revenue to the government by claiming tax evasion and input tax credit of around Rs 33.5 crore. Central GST inquiry is on from the arrested accused.

A special team under the direction of Central GST Commissioner Lalan Kumar carried out this action.
