INFLATION MEASURES IN PLACE

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said the government has taken several supply side measures to curb the inflationary pressure. The government is monitoring the price situation of major essential commodities on a regular basis and taking corrective actions from times to time, she said, “the uptrend in inflation has been largely led by exogenous factors, vela increased prices of crude oil and edible oils, which have an impact on domestic inflation due to India’s import dependence on these items,” Sitharaman said in a written response to a query in the Lok Sabha.

DIRECT TAX COLLECTIONS UP

The net direct tax collections grew nearly 68% year on year during April 1 to November 23 to over Rs 6.92 lakh crore, MoS for finance Pankaj Chaudhary has said. The net direct tax collections as on November 23 were 27% higher than the figures for the same periods in pre-Covid period of 2019-20, he said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The net collections between April 1 and November 23 in 2020-21 and 2019-20 fiscals were Rs 4.12 lakh crore and Rs 5.44 lakh crore, respectively. The gross direct tax collection (before adjusting refunds) as of November 23 stood at over Rs 8.15 lakh crore, a 48% growth over year-ago period.

SKILL LOAN SCHEME

The skill loan scheme launched in 2015 has benefited 6,018 individuals with Rs 64.37 crore disbursed in six years till October 31, 2021, the skills development and entrepreneurship ministry said in a response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The scheme aims to provide loan facility to aspirants of skill development courses aligned to National skill qualification frame work. Loan amount varies from Rs 5000 to Rs 1,50,000 depending on the course. It has a repayment period of three to seven years.

TAX EVASION

There is no evidence to suggest that incidents of income-tax evasion were increasing in the country, Minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhry informed the Lok Sabha. “in terms of cases detected under goods and service tax (GST) and customs, there is no increasing trend in such evasion noticed in Delhi although there is overall increase in detection of GST and customs evasion cases in the country,” he said in response to a written query.
